Applications for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, are now open for the academic year 2021-22. Applying for FAFSA allows you to qualify for grants, scholarships, and other federally-sourced aid, such as student loans. The applications opened at the beginning of October and will be accepted until June 30, 2022.
It seems early, but an earlier application gives you a greater chance of receiving some of the $122 billion that the government offers in aid. Also, with so much uncertainty surrounding the pandemic it is a good idea to get your affairs in order early and secure all the help you can get. If you are unsure where to start, the first step is creating a Federal Student Aid ID. You can do this at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm. From there you can get in touch with a specialist to help you navigate the process.
